UCC Mountaineering Club in association with the Mardyke Arena and Pieta House, held a month long climbing challenge of climbing the length of the Mardyke Arena Climbing wall to the length of Mt Kilimanjaro individually or the length of Mt Everest as part of a team. Throughout the month of January, UCC Climbers partook in this amazing opportunity to raise awareness and funds for the invaluable work of Pieta House. On the last day of January, the 31st, a 12 hour climbathon took place. This was a personal challenge taken on by past coach and staff of the Mardyke Arena, Eoin Climber to climb the length of Mt Everest on the climbing wall. A team challenge also took place that day with UCC Mountaineering Club members climbing lengths of the wall to also climb the length of Mt Everest. In total UCCMC helped raise a massive €4000 throughout the month through sponsorship. It was a fantastic effort and commitment by UCC Mountaineering in helping to raise and being heavily involved in the organisation and running of this event. We hope this event will become a recurring one to continue to raise awareness and much needed funds for Pieta House.
